Resumen

The labor market is the master key to equality because it allows for income redistribution and the actualization of a wide range of economic and social rights. Understanding women's participation in the labor market is a fundamental step in advancing strategies for their economic empowerment. At the same time, women's participation in the labor market is often constrained by factors including social roles and norms. The traditional association of women with domestic work, childcare, and other unpaid or low-paid activities has generated a conflict that is still playing out in the 21st century. This thesis, offering three economic studies on the dynamics that affect women's participation in the labor market in Colombia. We present a national panorama of Colombia's women's labor market from different perspectives, pointing out the progress and mainly the challenges and gaps we still must overcome to achieve long-awaited gender equality and female economic empowerment.
