¿Es posible la argumentación no verbal? : un estado del arte sobre el problema de los argumentos no verbales

This article discusses how recent argumentation studies have attempted to answer the following questions: Are non-verbal arguments possible? If so, what would characterize them? What approach has been adopted to study these types of arguments? Would new criteria be needed to evaluate them or would existing ones be sufficient? To this end, I
will first discuss those authors who do not consider non-verbal argumentation possible; then I will focus on the two major projects that do see non-verbal argumentation as a possibility, namely the interpretative project and the normative project; finally, I will offer some examples to try to show the existence of non-verbal arguments. I believe that non- verbal arguments are possible and that, in addition, specialized instruments are not necessary to account for them, but that those that exist at present are sufficient. The growing visuality of culture poses new challenges in the field of argumentation; however, the literature that has dealt with the study of non-verbal arguments is relatively new and not very numerous. Thus, studying the field of non-verbal argumentation to understand the way it is shaping our interactions is a need that must be addressed.

En este artículo se investiga el modo en el que los recientes estudios de la argumentación han intentado responder las siguientes preguntas: ¿Son posibles los argumentos no verbales? De ser así, ¿qué los caracterizaría? ¿Qué enfoque se ha adoptado para estudiar este tipo de argumentos? ¿Se necesitarían acaso nuevos criterios para evaluarlos o bastarían con los existentes? Para ello, hablaré primero sobre aquellos autores que no consideran posible la argumentación no verbal; luego me enfocaré en los dos grandes proyectos que sí ven la argumentación no verbal como una posibilidad, a saber, el proyecto interpretativo y el proyecto normativo; finalmente, ofreceré algunos ejemplos para intentar mostrar la existencia de argumentos no verbales. Creo que son posibles los argumentos no verbales y que, además, no son necesarios instrumentos especializados para dar cuenta de ellos, sino que bastan con los que existen en la actualidad. La creciente visualidad de la cultura supone nuevos retos en el campo de la argumentación; sin embargo, la literatura que se ha ocupado de estudiar los argumentos no verbales es relativamente nueva y no muy numerosa. Así, estudiar el campo de la argumentación no verbal para comprender la forma como está moldeando nuestras interacciones es una necesidad que debe ser atendida.
