This enduring cuRíosity and scientific progress have given rise to astronomy, providing a broad knowledge base and laying new foundations for further advancement. It is for this reason that the research group wants to contribute its grain of sand. Building on previous projects, the Quasar research group has acquired a special camera that can be attached to the university’s telescope. This allows for the acquisition and recording of astronomical images useful for research and dissemination. The group aims to use this equipment to conduct astronomical observations and photography, making the results public so that people outside the group can experience this firsthand. This is expected to spark their cuRíosity about these topics, potentially seeing joining the research group as an opportunity to expand their knowledge and answer questions about these subjects. Similarly, with the same goal of inviting participation in the research group, there are plans to hold a series of short talks on intriguing astronomy topics that are both attention-grabbing and highly informative.Ítem Proceso de ASC - BIOPROSPECCION DE INGREDIENTES NATURALES EN LA AGROBIODIVERSIDAD COLOMBIANA PARA APLICACION EN LA INDUSTRIA COSMETICA(Universidad EAFIT, 2020) Ospina-Mejía, Manuel; Betancour-Botero, Natalia; López, Mariana; Sierra-Zapata, Laura; Universidad EAFITBioprospection of yeast strains as part of the native microbiome of Coffee Mucilage, to explore as future natural ingredients for cosmetic products.Ítem Proceso de ASC - CARACTERIZACION MECANICA DE LOS RESIDUOS MINEROS Y EVALUACION DE LA SUSCEPTIBILIDAD A LA LICUACION ESTATICA Y DINAMICA DE LAS PRESAS DE RELAVES MINEROS DE BURITICA Y CERRO MATOSO.(Universidad EAFIT, 2022) Ortega, Jorge David; Yela Burbano, Diana Fernanda; Montoya-Noguera, Silvana; Universidad EAFITIn mining projects, around 50 thousand tons of rock are extracted per day, where each ton, 5 grams or less of gold are obtained, the remainder is known as tailings. These waste are stored in more than 18,000 tailings dams in the world with a capacity of around 200 million tons each (Lyu et al., 2019). It is important to mention that throughout history, serious accidents have occurred due to the failure of these structures, since there are 6 to 14 times more likely to fail than water reservoirs (Emerman, 2018). Since tailings are loose and saturated, they are susceptible to liquefaction. The objective of this project is to understand how liquefaction works in these materials, through field visits, the characterization of behavior in the laboratory and, finally, improve the vibrating table to visualize liquefaction in these soils. The results of this project have been disseminated to through the social networks of the seedbed on Instagram as a product of citizen participation, A technical day on mining tailings was also organized at the EAFIT University with the support of the specialization in Soil and Foundation Mechanics and the company SRK. Also I know will present a dissemination article in the Social Appropriation of Knowledge (WP) format. These results raise awareness in the academic community and society about mining tailings and the importance of research to mitigate future disasters in the industry.Ítem Proceso de ASC - CARTOGRAFIA GEOLOGICA DE ALTA RESOLUCION EN LA VICTORIA (HUILA, COLOMBIA)(Universidad EAFIT, 2019) Cárdenas-Rozo, Andrés; Universidad EAFITDurante el Mioceno se presentaron dos intervalos de calentamiento global (Londoño et al. 2018). This station is in the start-up phase with the 2019 Applied Electromagnetism Seedbed (SEMA) project underway. Taking advantage of the payload capacity of an unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) and the transmission range capacity of the base, activities in the agricultural sector can be carried out such as irrigation, fumigation and crop sensing among other applications, in addition to its possible use in humanitarian aid by having greater access through UAVs to places that cannot be easily accessed to transport objects and aid. Additionally, the proposal could very well be included as a topic of study in the recent undergraduate degree in agronomic engineering created at the University.Ítem Proceso de ASC - CORRIENTE INDUCIDA EN TOROIDES(Universidad EAFIT, 2023) Isaza Álvarez, Juan Camilo; Villa Mejía, Miguel Ángel; Cuervo Escobar, Juan Camilo; Solano Zapardiel, Julián Andrés; Cárdenas Vargas, Juan Pablo; García Ardila, Mariana; Marulanda Bernal, José Ignacio; Universidad EAFITThe project evaluated a method to generate energy from the electromagnetic field around an alternating current line. Different toroidal geometries were explored to obtain relationships between the current circulating through the line and that induced in the toroids and thus consider the possibility of using this procedure as an “energy Harvesting” method.Ítem Proceso de ASC - DESARROLLO DE UN ASESOR DE COMPRA PARA VEHICULOS ELECTRICOS BASADO EN INTELIGENCIA ARTIFICIAL - FASE 1(Universidad EAFIT, 2019) Sierra, Luis; Rivera, David; Montoya, Manuel; Vallejo, Juliana; Cardona, Santiago; Universidad EAFITBased on data processing science, project experience previous studies of the current seedbed and data from previous investigations; HE aims to create and train an "Artificial Intelligence" that, based on characterization of a specific user; you can select the different models of electric transport that are most compatible from the points of view: economic, aesthetic, technical and functional; and with A.I., thus suggesting a segment specific product and vehicle references in which a potential user you might be interested.Ítem Proceso de ASC - ESTUDIO CONCEPTUAL DE LA GASIFICACION POR PLASMA PARA LA PRODUCCION DE SYNGAS(Universidad EAFIT, 2023) Palacio Espinosa, Claudia Constanza; Aguiar Castrillón, Juan Sebastián; Morales Paternina, Samuel David; Peña Arango, Karol Andrea; Arboleda Londoño, Juan Manuel; Universidad EAFITGasification is a thermochemical process through which waste materials, such as biomass, are transformed into synthesis gas (SYNGAS) to produce fuel gas that can be used as an energy vector. Energy generation from biomass typically involves combustible agents like wood, coal, and refined petroleum products, which are used for their ability to convert mass into thermal energy, which can then be transformed into mechanical work and even electrical energy. Plasma, or ionized gas, has various properties depending on its nature and can be either cold or hot plasma. Hot plasma can reach extremely high temperatures, even higher than those in combustion processes, enabling the transformation of both organic and inorganic matter by reaching their melting points. Thus, plasma is a valuable tool for gasification processes, converting matter (organic and inorganic) into synthesis gas. Additionally, the implementation of gasification processes seeks to benefit the environment through solid waste treatment, production of low or zero carbon footprint fuels, and sustainable energy. Consequently, knowledge about the use of high-temperature plasmas for solid waste treatment is of great scientific interest to the materials research group, due to its significant environmental and social impact.Ítem Proceso de ASC - ESTUDIO DE MATERIALES CERAMICOS PARA APLICACIONES MEDICAS FASE 2(Universidad EAFIT, 2019) Palacio Espinosa, Claudia Constanza; Rendón, José Manuel; Hernández, María Camila; Restrepo, Vanessa; Machado, Santiago; Rodriguez, Valentina; Gil, María José; Universidad EAFITThe rapid population growth in recent years has significantly increased the demand for implants, which have traditionally been developed from metallic materials. However, due to the inherent disadvantages of these materials, ceramic implants have been developed, creating a market worth approximately 253 billion dollars annually. Ceramic materials possess several key characteristics that make them suitable for implants, such as biocompatibility, osteoconductivity, easy adhesion, porosity, neutral pH, and excellent mechanical properties. In the Colombian context, there is a noticeable lack of contributions in the field of implants, particularly ceramic ones. This gap presents an opportunity to conduct research that can bring new ideas, propose innovative formulations to tackle new challenges, improve existing implants, and much more, all with the goal of making significant advances in this important global issue. For these reasons, after conducting a technology assesment in the SCOPUS database and engaging in several discussions with experts on the topic, it was observed that Portland cement, commonly used in construction, is an alternative that has not been widely studied.. Thus, it was decided to investigate whether this material is indeed suitable for medical applications. This required studying all the processes needed for Portland cement to meet the mechanical and biological characteristics that would make it a biocompatible material. In essence, the goal of this project is to determine whether Portland cement can be used as a ceramic implant, evaluate its advantages and disadvantages compared to other materials used so far, and explore how to enhance its performance.Ítem Proceso de ASC - ESTUDIO DE MATERIALES CON MEMORIA DE FORMA EN LA CONSTRUCCION DE MUSCULOS ARTIFICIALES(Universidad EAFIT, 2021) Palacio Espinosa, Claudia Constanza; Herrera Pino, Adrián; Chica Quintero, Jacobo; Cardona, Yoshiro Yi; Universidad EAFITMaterials have different properties that distinguish them from one another, some of which are used to our advantage in the development of new technologies that enable day-to-day advancements. In this project, the properties of certain materials were studied to allow the design and construction of artificial muscles. These materials are those that exhibit the SME (Shape Memory Effect), particularly shape memory polymers. Throughout the project, relevant research was conducted on the existing theory, the fundamental physical and chemical phenomena of the problem, and the creation of shape memory polymers that enable the development of artificial muscles.Ítem Proceso de ASC - ESTUDIO DEL BASAMENTO PALEOZOICO DE LA CORDILLERA CENTRAL(Universidad EAFIT, 2023) Bustamante, Camilo; Universidad EAFITDurante el período Permico, entre ~295 y 250 Ma, las masas continentales de la Tierra se fueron aglutinando para conformar lo que se conoce como el supercontinente Pangea. These measures are designed to not only mitigate existing air pollution but also promote sustainability. As a result, there has been a significant increase in the purchase of electric vehicles. According to Andemos Colombia, as of January 31, 2019, there are 2,826 electric cars and motorcycles in Colombia, including 1,048 cars and 1,778 motorcycles, which is just 0.02% of the total 14,104,129 vehicles in the national fleet. However, some concerns focus on the future, as without proper planning, one problem could be replaced by another, or even worsen. Batteries, which are essentially chemical systems for energy production, are made of materials that can be difficult to recycle without the proper disposal processes, potentially leading to significant soil and water pollution in the future. This concern has raised questions such as: What will be done with the batteries from electric vehicles when they need replacement? How will they be recycled? What processes are necessary for the environmentally responsible disposal of these batteries? Therefore, the materials research group aimed to investigate the composition of these batteries more deeply and explore recycling methods to prevent further environmental damage.Ítem Proceso de ASC - ESTUDIO E IMPLEMENTACION DE UN SISTEMA CAPAZ DE DETECTAR LAS SEÑALES DE RADIO EMITIDAS POR LA TRAZA DE METEOROS(Universidad EAFIT, 2022) Restrepo, René; Álvarez, Sara; Universidad EAFITThe remnants of the formation of the solar system left, among other stellar objects, small remnants commonly known as shooting stars. Observing these objects is difficult because ideal weather conditions are required. Therefore, this report proposes the preliminary design of a radio detection device to identify these meteor showers. This will involve several phases, including a review of the literature on the physical aspects and the necessary instrumentation for the setup, concluding with a study of the data collected through radio detection.Ítem Proceso de ASC - ESTUDIO E IMPLEMENTACION DE UN SISTEMA DE IMPRESION HOLOGRAFICO DIRECTO PARA LA EXPLORACION Y APROPIACION DE LA HOLOGRAFIA SINTETICA.(Universidad EAFIT, 2022) Gómez Gallego, Isabella; Trujillo, Carlos Alejandro; Universidad EAFITSynthetic holography is an advancement in traditional holographic techniques aimed at overcoming a fundamental limitation: the physical constraints of objects. By integrating more complex components and sophisticated systems, synthetic holography expands the range of possible scenes that can be represented on these 3D displays. Todo esto, enmarcado dentro del proyecto interno el supercontinente Pangea y su registro en los Andes de Colombia.Ítem Proceso de ASC - EXPLORACION Y MEJORA DE VARIAMOS (UNA HERRAMIENTA PARA LA ESPECIFICACION DE MODELOS DE VARIABILIDAD)(Universidad EAFIT, 2019) Vallejo, Paola; Universidad EAFITSoftware Engineering has as its main objective the development of professional software, meaning that the software fulfills its purpose within a determined time frame and for a specific context. This area of knowledge is intended to generate positive results in any field where there is a possibility of improving a process, product, or service through automation. It is in this context that Software Engineering must be adequately applied to introduce quality to the desired software product, improve development processes, and reduce development time. Software appears as a cornerstone in organizations, even in different branches of science, to the extent that it can be asserted that software is found in all scientific research. One of the strategies for developing software is through modeling and model transformation. However, in our context, development is handled in an artisanal manner, as has already been explored in this Research Group. Many efforts aim at the industrialization of software production, and these efforts are focused on the continuous application of Software Engineering. Since 2016, the Software Engineering Research Group has been exploring questions such as: How can the application of good Software Engineering practices benefit software development in Scientific Computing? What design and architecture patterns can be applied to Scientific Computing to improve its quality? How can the teaching of Software Engineering be improved through gamification? Among others. From now on, we will focus on exploring topics related to the advantages offered by model-driven development and how these can be incorporated into industry practices, especially in Colombia, to ensure non-artisanal, easily adaptable, and high-quality developments.Ítem Proceso de ASC - FORTALECIMIENTO DE CAPACIDADES DE INVESTIGACION SOBRE REDES DE TRANSPORTE - ANALISIS DE VIBRACIONES, ACCELERACIONES Y RUIDO(Universidad EAFIT, 2023) Martinod Restrepo, Ronald Mauricio; Jean, Alexandre Louis Marcel Philippe; Herrera Arcila, Camilo; Universidad EAFITThe Maintenance Research Seminar of Universidad EAFIT (SIME) and the Intelligent Transportation Systems Research Seminar (SiSIT) belonging to the research group GEMI, are integrated by undergraduate and graduate students, alumni and professors, who together build a space where they learn the work of research and explore their creativity to respond to the needs of the industry and society in the search for social, economic, legal and environmental sustainability.
