Ítem Analysis of the procedure for suspension evaluation of civil armoured vehicles: Reliability and safety driving criteria(Inderscience Enterprises, 2013-01-01) Martinod, R.M.; Betancur, G.R.; Mesa, J.F.; Benavides, O.M.; Castañeda, L.F.; Universidad EAFIT. Departamento de Ingeniería Mecánica; Estudios en Mantenimiento (GEMI)The present study exposes an analysis of the suspension system technical state evaluation for civil vehicles that have been subject to armouring processes. Such evaluation is performed through a mechanised revision established by state regulation and is based on the method defined by EuSAMA. The development of this analysis focuses on establishing the existing relation between the ballistic resistance integrated to a vehicle and the dynamic effect exercised for the modification of its mass, according to two reliability/safety driving measurement criteria: (i) tyre-road adhesion index and (ii) tyre excitation phase angle. The study proposes new elements to the current procedure established to evaluate the suspension of civil armoured cars considering the two measurement criteria, which can be acquired by a standard commercial suspension tester machine. Departamento de Ingeniería Mecánica; Estudios en Mantenimiento (GEMI)The running safety and passenger comfort levels in a vehicle are tightly related to the technical state of the suspension elements. The technical state of the suspension depends of the service life time as its components become old and wear out. In this paper, a study on the dynamic behaviour of a railway vehicle is established in relation to the damping elements in one of its suspension stages. An experimental measurement model is developed, obtaining a set of useful signals for the identification of the dynamic parameters of the vehicle and developing a test through the application of the operational modal analysis technique, using least-squares complex exponential method as a basis to validate the numerical model of the multi-body system. Then, the study focuses on developing numerical simulations for the identification of the technical state of the dampers by the registration of dynamic variables under commercial service conditions and on estimating the state of the suspension elements. © 2012 Taylor & Francis.Ítem Suspension and landing gear failures(Elsevier Inc., 2015-01-01) Ossa, E.A.; Paniagua, M.; Universidad EAFIT. Departamento de Ingeniería de Producción; Materiales de IngenieríaFailure of landing gears in aircrafts represents approximately a 10% of the total of failures reported for the aerospace industry. This chapter discusses the main causes of these failures, their prevention, and a complete analysis of three cases of failure of this kind of components. On the other hand, failures of suspension systems in vehicles represent approximately a 13% of the total of failures for the automotive industry. In this industry, it is a common practice to replace failed parts without any further investigation of the root causes of failure, which can make the amount of failures to be underestimated. This chapter will discuss the main types and causes of failures of suspension systems. One case of failure of this kind of components will be analyzed and discussed in detail. © 2016 Elsevier Ltd.
