Ítem Amphibia : estrategias para mejorar la resiliencia socioecológica en el asentamiento Antonio Nariño del borde urbano rural de la Ciénaga San Silvestre, Barrancabermeja (Santander)(Universidad EAFIT, 2021) Carvajal Urrea, Yasmín; Sepúlveda Delgado, Camilo Andrés; Benítez Pérez, Maira Isabel; Ramírez Hernández, Wilson ArielThis degree project deals with how to define, address, and propose alternatives to the problems of a community that is strongly linked to the San Silvestre swamp and the city of Barrancabermeja (Santander), which entails several challenges as it means defining and identifying a multidimensional problem in which a social and ecological system (disturbed by various factors that lead to a loss of socio-ecological resilience) is connected. For this purpose, the conceptual framework of the Intergovernmental Scientific-Regulatory Platform on Biodiversity and Ecosystem Services (IPBES) is adapted. It also implies understanding a community in which the artisanal fishing way of life predominates (Antonio Nariño settlement) and a biodiverse and amphibious territory traditionally segregated (urban-rural border of Barrancabermeja). Amphibia is understood as a process that includes understanding the territory as a socio-ecological system, with social and ecological attributes that must remain over time and be restored, including a previous valuation. It also proposes methods that allow involving the communities that inhabit it and the local knowledge in the decision-making process concerning their habitat and ways of life, whose ultimate goal is to propose Nature-based Solutions (SbN, in Spanish) to solve the multiple socio-ecological problems in which natural and social capitals are the main elements.Ítem Estructuración financiera de un Fondo de Capital Privado (FCP) en Colombia como alternativa de inversión para proyectos de compensación de carbono de Soluciones Basadas en la Naturaleza (SBN)(Universidad EAFIT, 2024) Gómez Gil, Daniel; Trujillo Mainieri, José Fernando; Botero Ramírez, Juan CarlosClimate change is a significant macroeconomic challenge due to its uneven impact on social capital and geography. These natural phenomena create distortions in global trade flows, food production, the exchange of goods and services, infrastructure, and overall social well-being, necessitating investments for adaptation. This requires higher levels of public investment and the involvement of the private sector with diverse financing sources for climate mitigation and adaptation projects. A disorderly transition to a carbon-free economy could result in substantial financial losses. Structuring a Private Equity Fund with an investment strategy in Nature-Based Solutions (NbS) applied to carbon offset projects offers an effective strategy for investing in climate assets, generating additional financial, environmental, and social benefits.Publicación Oportunidades de desarrollo de mecanismos para el financiamiento de las soluciones basadas en la naturaleza en Colombia(Universidad EAFIT, 2024) Arciniegas Jiménez, Diógenes Fernando; Riascos Enríquez, Carol Stefanny; Gaitán Riaño, Sandra ConstanzaNature-Based Solutions (NbS) are a key strategy for addressing environmental and social challenges, leveraging natural resources to generate tangible benefits. NbS offer an alternative to improve quality of life, mitigate climate impacts, and promote ecosystem conservation. This study investigates opportunities for developing financing mechanisms for NbS in Colombia. A review of national, Latin American, and European literature was conducted to leverage implementation processes in these regions. A survey of companies across various economic sectors (finance, services, manufacturing, etc.) was also carried out to assess their understanding of NbS. Additionally, a non-experimental search for available financing mechanisms in Colombia was performed. Moreover, an econometric model was developed to analyze the factors driving attention to NbS, based on Google search indices. The literature review revealed limited research and development of NbS in Colombia. Few studies address environmental aspects and explore available mechanisms. While Latin American and European studies are more developed, they primarily utilize a qualitative approach, hindering the quantification of economic benefits. Colombia offers various alternatives, including land-based mechanisms, offsets, environmental taxes, carbon taxes, tax rebates, credits for stormwater management, carbon markets, green bonds, resilience bonds, and sustainability-linked bonds. However, widespread implementation faces significant obstacles, mainly due to regulatory and informational barriers. The survey also revealed a lack of awareness of NbS among companies. Those familiar with the concept highlighted the importance of protecting green ecosystems and their influence on improving public and private infrastructure; however, this affinity for NbS does not translate into the definition of green principles and criteria or the implementation of related environmental projects in many companies. Finally, the econometric model identified bio-sustainable policies and climate variability/change as significant variables in explaining attention to NbS, thus promoting greater interest in the subject.
