Departamento de Ciencias; Lógica y ComputaciónAn analytical expression for the optimal control of an Ebola problem is obtained. The analytical solution is found as a first-order approximation to the Pontryagin Maximum Principle via the Euler-Lagrange equation. An implementation of the method is given using the computer algebra system Maple. Our analytical solutions confirm the results recently reported in the literature using numerical methods.Ítem Characterizing points on discontinuity boundary of Filippov systems(ACTA Press, 2008-01-01) Arango, I.; Taborda, J.A.; Arango, I.; Taborda, J.A.; Universidad EAFIT. Departamento de Ingeniería Mecánica; Mecatrónica y Diseño de MáquinasIn this paper, we presented a basic methodology to understand the behavior of discontinuous piecewise smooth autonomous systems (denominated Filippov systems) in the planar neighborhood of the discontinuity boundary (DB). This methodology is useful in detection of nonsmooth bifurcations in Filippov systems. We propose a classification of the points and events on DB. This classification is more complete in comparison with the reported papers previously. The lines and the points are characterized with didactic symbols and the exclusive conditions for their existence based in geometric criterions. Boolean-valued functions are used to formulate the conditions. An illustrative example with a friction oscillator is presented.Ítem Construcción de un portafolio bajo optimización dinámica con análisis de stress de un fondo mutual del sector transporte(Universidad EAFIT, 2021) Mayorga Sánchez, Jorge Humberto; Correa López, Yulian Alberto; Támara Ayús, Armando LeninThe purpose of this work is to build a portfolio with the most liquid shares of the Colombian Stock Exchange (BVC) using dynamic optimization, likewise, to look at the effect that COVID has had on the performance of said portfolio. The study period is between January 2016 and May 2021 and the actions of PFBCOLOM, ECOPETROL, BCOLOMBIA, GRUPOARGOS, ISA, NUTRESA, PFAVAL and ÉXITO were taken. For each of these actions, the best distribution of returns is established and the dynamic optimization process is executed in each of the portfolios, with which the optimal participation of the actions within each of the four sets was established, then a stress process is applied to each portfolio and the greatest possible loss exposed under this methodology is determined. It is concluded that when portfolios are disturbed by a stress process that includes the COVID period, they present a higher VaR and increase the result of other measures, thereby increasing the risk of exposure for investors.Ítem Definición de escenarios de lahares en el volcán de Colima y análisis de susceptibilidad a inundación en la población de San Marcos, Jalisco, México(Universidad EAFIT, 2020) Pérez Hernández, Andrea; Pérez Mejía, Natalia Andrea; Capra Pedol, Lucia; Duque Trujillo, Jose FernandoLahars are a mixture of water and sediments associated with volcanic processes, they can be generated by different factors such as melting glaciers, dam’s ruptures and heavy rainfall; this last factor occurs frequently in volcanoes, where rainfall/runoff process enhance erosion on main channels generating lahars that can reach large distances from their source, causing damages on the infrastructure of surrounding populations. The present work presents rain-triggered lahar susceptibility analysis along La Arena ravine and the effect on San Marcos; a village located 14 kilometers southeast of the Colima Volcano, in Mexico, between the limits of the states of Jalisco and Colima. To define the inundation limits, the program FLO-2D was chosen to model lahars, through data of rainfall events in 2018 and 2019. Using this information, a rainfall analysis was conducted and it was possible to identify those associated with the generation of lahars and to identify different scenarios depending on the total rainfall accumulation and its maximum intensity. Three different scenarios (small, intermediate and large) were identified and simulated with the FLO-2D code to analyze the effect on the population of San Marcos. Based on the numeric simulations hazard maps were made, which were used as a tool to study and analyze the area exposed of lahar inundation, considering that the three scenarios can generate an impact to the infrastructure. Aditionally, the study zone can be affected due to events of great magnitude, such as rainfall produced by hurricane events. Likewise, a probabilistic analysis was also conducted; where the large scenario presents low probability of occurrence, since these are events with regional (hurricane) character than those for the intermediate and small scenarios (rainy season). Through the analysis of the maps here presented, the population of San Marcos presents a low-medium hazard level to floods caused by lahars.Ítem Design and thermal modeling of a cold finger open cycle cryostat for Mössbauer spectroscopy(SPRINGER, 2019-01-01) Andrade N.A.G.; Torres Á.A.V.; Universidad EAFIT. Departamento de Ciencias Básicas; Electromagnetismo Aplicado (Gema)In this work we present the design and thermal modeling of a cold finger open cycle cryostat that operates with liquid nitrogen, intended to be implemented into the Mössbauer spectrometer available at the Universidad EAFIT of Medellín, Colombia, with the purpose of obtaining a low cost and good performance system for the acquisition of low temperature Mössbauer spectra. Initially, we propose a design that meets the requirements of the spectrometer, afterward, based on the initial design, we develop the calculations of heat flow into the system. The results of the thermal model allowed us to define the dimensions of the vessels, as well as calculate the evaporation time of a given column of liquid nitrogen in the cryogenic vessel. Finally, some progresses in the construction of the physical prototype are presented. © 2019, Springer Nature Switzerland AG.Ítem Design Verification through virtual prototyping techniques based on Systems Engineering(Springer London, 2017-10-01) Mejía-Gutiérrez, R.; Carvajal-Arango, R.; Universidad EAFIT. Departamento de Ingeniería de Diseño; Ingeniería de Diseño (GRID)The increasing offer of software tools for product development introduces methodological questions to design engineers in terms of the easiness of tool integration and design activities' sequencing. Nowadays, Design Verification and Validation through prototyping techniques have been enriched with software solutions enabling virtual prototyping to take more product's behaviors into consideration during analysis and simulation. It is the case of the Systems Engineering module in CATIA (TM) V6 that proposes a sequential "Requirements-Functional-Logical-Physical Design" (RFLP) approach to link conceptual design activities with 3D-models and simulation. Since some practitioners traditionally use these concepts, this article presents an analysis, based on action research, to evaluate the Design Verification activities as well as the tools integration offered by the new Product Lifecycle Management vision of CATIA (TM) V6. The analysis enabled authors to refine and propose a model's nature-dependent design method, enriched from the basic RFLP concept. Additionally, the presented results also showed the benefits of using integrated approaches when designing complex products, represented in a case study on virtual Design Verification of an automotive sub-system.Ítem Determining the Optimal Selling Time of Cattle: A Stochastic Dynamic Programming Approach(Universidad EAFIT, 2015-07-09) Ramírez Hassan, Andrés; Mejía, Susana; aramir21@eafit.edu.co; smejiame@eafit.edu.coThe world meat market demands competitiveness and optimal livestock replacement decisions can help to achieve this goal. We introduce a novel discrete stochastic dynamic programming framework to support a manager’s decision-making process of whether to sell or keep fattening animals in the beef sector. In particular, our proposal uses a non-convex value function, combining both economic and biological variables, and involving uncertainty with regard to price fluctuations. Our methodology is very general, so practitioners can apply it in different regions around the world. We illustrate the model’s convenience with an empirical application, finding that our methodology generates better results than actions based on empirical experience.Ítem Downdraft gasifier modeling(Universidad EAFIT, 2016) Comas Gil, Frank Sebastián; Builes Toro, SantiagoÍtem Efectos de un modelo simulado de concejo municipal en la participación ciudadana en Medellín en los grados décimo y once en la red de personeros de Belén(Universidad EAFIT, 2023) López López, Estefanía; Cadena Gaitán, Carlos MiguelThe study presented delves into the Student Council Model 2023, a pedagogical proposal aimed at instilling democratic and civic principles in youth. Through immersion in the dynamics of a municipal council, young individuals assume representative roles, debating and formulating proposals. The research drew on the theoretical framework of democratic participation, civic education, and the role of youth in decision-making processes. The adopted method involves a qualitative study where, backed by the network of student representatives from the Belén commune, students from 10 institutions were integrated. The results showed that the simulation strengthens skills such as oratory and critical analysis, and promotes a deep understanding of democratic structures. Furthermore, the experience emphasized the importance of civic education in building more informed and participative societies. The diversity of participants provided a representative sample, concluding that initiatives like this are crucial for shaping future leaders who are aware and committed to the common welfare within a democratic frameworkÍtem The effects of time pressure on driver performance and physiological activity: A driving simulator study(Elsevier Ltd, 2016-08-01) Rendón-Vélez, E.; van Leeuwen, P. It is paramount to be able to identify and recognize the attitude (often represented with the Euler angles) and position variables like the degrees of freedom (DOF) of the system and also the linear behavior. All this to conclude up about the non-linear behavior presented by the accelerations, velocities, positions and Euler angles (attitude) when those mentioned are plotted against time. In addition to this, the linearized system is found in order to facilitate the control analysis and stability analysis, at using linear analysis tools of Simulink and concepts like controllability and observability, reaching the point of determining under the previous concepts to proceed with the control design phase. Lastly, an uncertainty and sensitivity analysis is realized, by means the Monte-Carlo and the Linear regression method (in Simulink too), to find the torque like critical model input, since it has the greatest effect on the response variables in the system; and thus finally, to implement the Linear Quadratic Regulator (LQR) controller, at using the lqr Matlab functionÍtem El modelo Harrod-Domar: implicaciones teóricas y empíricas(Universidad EAFIT, 10/10/2005) Franco González, Humberto; Ramírez Hassan, Andrés; Universidad EAFITÍtem Monte Carlo Simulation of Ferroelectric Behavior in PZT Films by Using a Stress Dependent DIFFOUR Hamiltonian(Universidad EAFIT, 2014-06-24) Restrepo-Parra, E; Ortíz Álvarez, H H; Bedoya-Hincapié, C M; Universidad Nacional de Colombia; Universidad de Caldas; Universidad Santo TomásÍtem NMPC controller applied to the operation of an internal combustion engine: formulation and solution of the optimization problem in real time(Springer-Verlag France, 2018-02-01) Chica, J.A.V.; Torres, A.G.D.; Acosta Maya, Diego Andres; Chica, J.A.V.; Torres, A.G.D.; Acosta Maya, Diego Andres; Universidad EAFIT.
