Como tambor y voz : análisis de la aplicación del piano en músicas afroamericanas
(Universidad EAFIT, 2025) Ramírez Espinosa, Juan Sebastián; Lennis Cortés, Laura Isabel
This work analyzes the influence of African elements on the piano language of Afro-descendant music from the Americas. It addresses structural, rhythmic, and timbral elements that reveal a musical logic inherited from African tradition--reinterpreted through the piano in genres such as jazz, salsa, funk, and blues. It addresses the piano as a percussive and expressive instrument beyond its traditional melodic-harmonic conception in genres such as salsa and funk. Additionally, this document proposes an analytical framework based on organizational principles characteristic of African music, such as the interaction between constant and variable elements and the combination of binary and ternary pulse groupings. This text aims to delve deeper into the elements that allow us to understand the Africanisms of the piano in the Americas, with special interest in their future application to the study of Afro-Colombian music.

El bebop y su influencia en el lenguaje pianístico de Papo Lucca
(Universidad EAFIT, 2022) Gaviria González, Juan Carlos; Gil Araque, Fernando
This article provides an overview of the musical language and style of Papo Luca, his relationship with Salsa and how jazz and especially Bebop have influenced him. The first part of the text is divided into two sections to define Bebop and Salsa. Once the concept of "Salsa" is understood, Papo Lucca’s musical language and style, the center of interest in this article, is contextualized. It is essential to make some parallels, for example, with the pianist Richie Ray. This helps us to understand the musical dimension of Papo. Finally, an attempt is made to classify the main elements of his piano language and some characteristics applied to his way of orchestrating are also mentioned.
