Publicación Rasgos de personalidad y eventos detonantes en la adopción de hábitos saludables en adultos jóvenes de Medellín(Universidad EAFIT, 2026-05-29) Medina-Gómez, Mateo; Torres Cadavid, SusanaThis study examines the relationship between Big Five personality traits and trigger events preceding the adoption of healthy habits —physical activity, balanced diet, and adequate sleep— in young adults aged 18 to 39 residing in Medellín, Colombia. Although personality has been widely linked to health behaviors, and life events have been identified as catalysts for behavioral change, the interaction between these two constructs remains largely underexplored empirically, particularly in Latin American populations. The study adopted a mixed-methods approach with a descriptive and correlational scope. The quantitative phase included a sample of 73 participants who completed a virtual questionnaire comprising a healthy habits and trigger events block, and the Big Five Inventory (BFI-44). The qualitative phase consisted of nine semi-structured interviews analyzed through thematic coding in Atlas.ti. Findings identified the main types of trigger events reported, described personality profiles in the sample, and determined correlations between traits and trigger types. This work aimed to contribute evidence for the design of more personalized health interventions, tailored to the psychological profile and life stage of young adults.
