    The repatriation of people sentenced and imprisoned in foreign countries is an issue that has been little developed in Colombia even though is intrinsically related to the issue of Human Rights. This work investigates the existing mechanisms for the repatriation and rights protection of Colombians sentenced abroad identifying two main routes. First, the conventional mechanisms route that include treaties and agreements ratified by Colombia. Second, the alternative mechanisms such as the diplomatic route that has precedent in cases of convicted persons in the People's Republic of China. The above in order to identify the main challenges faced by Colombian nationals in terms of repatriation. Also, to put in evidence the need for subscription of multilateral and bilateral treaties that regulate the issue. And finally, to show Colombia’s need to complete an international repatriation framework for the protection of its nationals sentenced abroad.
