This research study aims to assess the effectiveness of sentiment analysis in determining market perception of specific companies listed on the American stock market. The study focuses on employing sentiment analysis on collected news articles within a defined period. The specific objectives include gathering relevant news articles, employing natural language processing techniques for sentiment analysis, obtaining corresponding historical price data, and calculating the Pearson correlation between news sentiment and stock prices. The study endeavors to provide a deeper understanding of how sentiment analysis can impact the evaluation of companies and their market performance. The findings and analysis derived from this study can support investors in making more informed and data-driven decisions by considering market perception in conjunction with stock prices.

Experimental Development of Fuzzy Controllers for Thermal and Pneumatic Processes
    (Universidad EAFIT, 2021-05-12) Hernandez-Mesa, Richard S; Moreno-Garcia, Francisco E; Castro-Casadiego, Sergio A; Medina-Delgado, Byron; Universidad Francisco de Paula Santander
In this project, a Fuzzy control system is proposed in an industrial process training module with two independent systems between them, one thermal and the other pneumatic. The control algorithm is developed in Python language v3.6 executed by a Raspberry Pi B+, both controllers depend on the error and change in error that are updated in times of 2 s and 1 s, for temperature and pressure respectively, communication with the plants uses A/D and D/A converters, the thermal Fuzzy was analyzed with three temperature references [50,100 and 150]°C, with a rise time of 191 s, 360 s and 505 s; steady state error of 5.5%, 0.7% y 0.7%, in the pneumatic system the speed of change between references is evaluated from 10 psi to 15 psi varying the activation of the compressor at the beginning of the experiments, the settling times obtained are 111 s and 106 s, with the compressor off the result is 116 s and 88 s, besides a maximum excess of 13% with inherent oscillations to the type system that are in an acceptable range.

Improving customer waiting time for medicine-retrieval center
(Universidad Eafit, 2021-04-12) Plazas Escudero, David; Cárdenas-Rodríguez, Juan Sebastian; Restrepo Sierra, Mateo; Universidad Eafit, School of Sciences, Department of Mathematical Sciences
Neuromedica is a Colombian pharmacy which provides treatment for people with neurological diseases. Recently, Neuromedica started attending patients from other pharmacy which led to a significant increase in the waiting time. In this pharmacy, people are classified and attended due to certain priorities. The data, given by Neuromedica, is analyzed using boxplots, Kruskal-Wallis and Kolmogorov-Smirnov tests with Python’s library Scipy. The objective of this work is to determine the number of assistants and queue logistic such that the waiting time has a significant reduction, with the purpose to provide a satisfactory level of service. A discrete-event simulation model was created and implemented in Python. A heuristic approach to minimize the waiting time is used. Additionally, a sensitivity analysis is made on the assumed distributions.

This master's thesis proposes a method to improve logistical efficiency in industrial companies by reducing operational travel distances and increasing productivity in order picking processes. The proposed solution applies an ABC/XYZ classification based on historical data extracted from the ERP system of the case study company, considering both the economic value and the frequency of movement of items. This analysis was automated using a Python-based template executed in Google Colab, enabling the calculation of key metrics such as average picking time, number of order lines, and the distribution of items according to operational modality (storage or cross docking). The core of the proposal lies in a technical redistribution of the warehouse layout to position critical items in high-accessibility zones, thereby minimizing the distance traveled per order. Various operational improvement scenarios were simulated to forecast gains in daily capacity without increasing staff. The results show a 13.7% reduction in average travel distance per order and over 50% cost savings in operations under a 30% efficiency improvement scenario. The model is replicable, traceable, and highly compatible with warehouse management systems (WMS), providing tangible benefits for optimizing logistics processes in distribution centers.
