It explores how state regulation or its absence affects various societal aspects, including human dignity, public health, and human rights. The study highlights Colombia's lack of systematic regulation regarding prostitution, with significant gaps in data and policies that hinder effective state intervention. Various theoretical approaches to prostitution—abolitionist, regulatory, and prohibitionist—are examined, showing the limitations and implications each holds for those involved in the sex trade, particularly women.
