    Music performance has been understood in two opposite ways: as a passive action between the composer’s ideas and the listener and as a dynamic action where the performer gives meaning to the music through his artistic creativity (Mellers, 1992). Although vocal performance demands a deep analysis of all those musical signs contained in the score, it is necessary to look at the meanings of the text, as well as the motor, cognitive and emotional aspects of the singer (Seashore, 1967; Dunsby, 2006). Based on an auto-ethnographic methodology, this article deals with the performance of three unreleased songs for piano and voice, composed by Alberto Guzman Naranjo (1953–), and it sheds light on vocal performance of academic music.
