Ítem Compensación ejecutiva : un caso aplicado(Universidad EAFIT, 2018) Calderón Arango, Sandra Milena; Sabogal Florido, Sandra Isabel; Téllez Falla, Diego FernandoExecutive compensation has as its main objective to align the interests of the executives of a company with its shareholders in order to solve the basic problem of the Agency present in a contract: the natural tendency of the Agent (the executive), motivated by his own interests, not to act for the benefit of the Principal (the shareholders). The use of incentives is then of great importance, since through them, influence is generated in executives' decisions conditioned on results. The purpose of this paper is to describe the executive compensation in the case of a company in Colombia, comparing with industry peers in the US. The conclusion reached is that, effectively, the remuneration and incentives of the executives are a useful tool to align their interests with the shareholders. In addition, it is manifest that there is no ideal amount or ratio to establish such incentives; this mix responds to each type of business.
