Ítem Assembly planning with automated retrieval of assembly sequences from CAD model information(EMERALD GROUP PUBLISHING LIMITED, 2012-01-01) Vigano, Roberto; Osorio Gomez, Gilberto; Universidad EAFIT. Departamento de Ingeniería de Diseño; Ingeniería de Diseño (GRID)Purpose - The purpose of this paper is to define an approach to extract the liaison graph from a 3D CAD model and analyze a method to find at least a feasible assembly sequence for the product. The method could be useful to search the optimal sequence of assembling for a product, by comparing different sequences extracted in automatic mode from a 3D CAD model. Design/methodology/ approach - The method proposed analyzes the liaison graph extracted, in order to obtain the possible assembly sequences for the product under study. The extraction of the sequences is based on some attributes and parameters of the graph. Findings - By means of the method proposed it is possible to obtain in automatic mode the liaison graph of an assembly 3D CAD model. Moreover, the study of the graph obtained allows the definition of all the assembly sequences for the product. Finally, it is possible to analyse the sequences found to select the optimal sequence. Research limitations/implications - The major limitation of the approach is, actually, the great number of impossible sequences that are extracted. For this, a little intervention by the user is required. Practical implications - The application of the method allows the manufacturer to analyze and study the optimal assembly sequence without the direct use of a CAD system. The approach could be used at the early stage of the design process and by means of the database of the PDM/PLM systems. Originality/value - The approach proposed in the paper is an original method to extract a liaison graph from a 3D CAD model. However, selection of appropriate MBT device characteristics is critical for ensuring both their mechanical soundness and their optimal distraction function for each patient's condition. This article assesses six characteristics of currently available MBT devices to characterize their design and function and to classify them in a way that assists the selection of the best device option for each clinical case. However, existing bone transport distraction osteogenesis devices have many limitations. The purpose of this research was to test a new device, the mandibular bone transport reconstruction plate, in an animal model with comparable mandible size to humans and to histologically and mechanically examine the regenerate bone. Materials and Methods: Eleven adult foxhounds were divided into an unreconstructed control group of 5 animals and an experimental group of 6 animals. In each animal, a 34-mm segmental defect was created in the mandible. The defect was reconstructed with a bone transport reconstruction plate. Histologic and biomechanical characteristics of the regenerate and unrepaired defect were analyzed and compared with bone on the contralateral side of the mandible after 4 weeks of consolidation. Results: The reconstructed defect was bridged with new bone, with little bone in the control defect. Regenerate density and microhardness were 22.3% and 42.6%, respectively, lower than the contralateral normal bone. Likewise, the anisotropy of the experimental group was statistically lower than in the contralateral bone. Half the experimental animals showed nonunion at the docking site. Conclusion: The device was very stable and easy to install and activate. After 1 month of consolidation, the defect was bridged with new bone, with evidence of active bone formation. Regenerate bone was less mature than the control bone. The methodology included a systematic literature review following the PRISMA 2020 protocol, searching Scopus and PubMed and applying inclusion and exclusion criteria to select 67 articles published between 2010 and 2023. A matrix was constructed with bibliographic information characterizing each study according to type of sampling, temporal factor, modeling, geography and impact, identifying the most frequent data in each section. Finally, a decision tree was constructed based on the information in the matrix, suggesting the most appropriate type of model according to the data and methodology used in the population study, acting as a practical guide to facilitate the choice of the appropriate population modeling, considering sampling criteria and other relevant factors identified in the systematic review.Ítem Creation of a three-dimensional model of the mandible and the TMJ in vivo by means of the finite element method.(Quintessenz Verlags GmbH, 2002-04-01) Castaño MC; Zapata U; Pedroza A; Jaramillo JD; Roldán S; Universidad EAFIT. Departamento de Ingeniería Mecánica; Bioingeniería GIB (CES – EAFIT)The aim of this study was to develop a three-dimensional finite element model of the mandible, including its TMJ. The model consisted of 7942 nodes and 41,010 elements, which were obtained from a convergence test, done to minimize the result error. It included cancellous and cortical bone, periodontal ligament, masticatory muscles (masseters, temporalis, lateral and internal pterygoids), teeth and the articular disk. All characteristics such as dental, mandibular, and muscle geometry were obtained from a computerized tomography (CT) of a living person. CT sections were scanned and digitized with a CAD software program. After images were adequately assembled, a vertical tracing was done which allowed the definition of a three-dimensional mesh. Modeling of teeth was carried out independently and the periodontal ligament was later included, limiting the alveolar area. Muscles were modeled based on flat-scale photographs and total muscle force was distributed in multiple vectors. The articular disk was generated having 2 mm of thickness with the combination of spring-type (axial stiffness) and gap-type (contact) elements. The model was then analyzed with finite element method (FEM) software where a mesh was generated and values for Poisson's ratio, elasticity, and shear modulus were assigned. These were orthotropic for cancellous and cortical bone, and isotropic for dentin, periodontal ligament, articular disk, and temporal bone. The boundary conditions were defined restricting the nodes on the periphery of the temporal bone. It was therefore possible to generate a three-dimensional finite element model based on information obtained in vivo.Ítem Diseño y evaluación de un score de riesgo crediticio. Departamento de Ingeniería de Sistemas; I+D+I en Tecnologías de la Información y las ComunicacionesBackground: RNA post-transcriptional modification is an exciting field of research that has evidenced this editing process as a sophisticated epigenetic mechanism to fine tune the ribosome function and to control gene expression. Although tRNA modifications seem to be more relevant for the ribosome function and cell physiology as a whole, some rRNA modifications have also been seen to play pivotal roles, essentially those located in central ribosome regions. RNA methylation at nucleobases and ribose moieties of nucleotides appear to frequently modulate its chemistry and structure. RNA methyltransferases comprise a superfamily of highly specialized enzymes that accomplish a wide variety of modifications. These enzymes exhibit a poor degree of sequence similarity in spite of using a common reaction cofactor and modifying the same substrate type. Results: Relationships and lineages of RNA methyltransferases have been extensively discussed, but no consensus has been reached. To shed light on this topic, we performed amino acid and codon-based sequence analyses to determine phylogenetic relationships and molecular evolution. We found that most Class I RNA MTases are evolutionarily related to protein and cofactor/vitamin biosynthesis methyltransferases. Additionally, we found that at least nine lineages explain the diversity of RNA MTases. We evidenced that RNA methyltransferases have high content of polar and positively charged amino acid, which coincides with the electrochemistry of their substrates. Conclusions: After studying almost 12,000 bacterial genomes and 2,000 patho-pangenomes, we revealed that molecular evolution of Class I methyltransferases matches the different rates of synonymous and non-synonymous substitutions along the coding region. Departamento de Ingeniería Mecánica; Bioingeniería GIB (CES – EAFIT)The biomechanical significance of cranial sutures in primates is an open question because their global impact is unclear, and their material properties are difficult to measure. In this study, eight suture-bone functional units representing eight facial sutures were created in a finite element model of a monkey cranium. All the sutures were assumed to have identical isotropic linear elastic material behavior that varied in different modeling experiments, representing either fused or unfused sutures. The values of elastic moduli employed in these trials ranged over several orders of magnitude. Each model was evaluated under incisor, premolar, and molar biting conditions. Results demonstrate that skulls with unfused sutures permitted more deformations and experienced higher total strain energy. However, strain patterns remained relatively unaffected away from the suture sites, and bite reaction force was likewise barely affected. These findings suggest that suture elasticity does not substantially alter load paths through the macaque skull or its underlying rigid body kinematics. An implication is that, for the purposes of finite element analysis, omitting or fusing sutures is a reasonable modeling approximation for skulls with small suture volume fraction if the research objective is to observe general patterns of craniofacial biomechanics under static loading conditions. While there have been a number of studies aimed at understanding the hardness and crack growth resistance behavior of this tissue, no study has evaluated if cracks in this tissue undergo repair. In this investigation the crack repair characteristics of young human enamel were evaluated as a function of patient gender and as a function of the distance from the Dentin Enamel Junction (DEJ). Cracks were introduced via microindentation along the prism direction and evaluated as a function of time after the indentation. Microscopic observations indicated that the repair of cracks began immediately after crack initiation and reaches saturation after approximately 48 h. During this process he crack length decreased up to 10% of the initial length, and the largest degree of reduction occurred in the deep enamel, nearest the DEJ. Throughout this, the existing jurisprudence on the subject in the last 4 years will be analyzed, based on the Constitutional Court's Milestone ruling ST-109 of 2021, in which important concepts for webcam models in a state of pregnancy are expanded and developed. In addition, it will go through international norms and principles to then land on the most specific contender for national regulations to end up locating ourselves in the analysis of the lack of protection of webcam models and workers of these platforms in Medellín. Departamento de Ciencias Básicas; Electromagnetismo Aplicado (Gema)In this paper we report the geometries and properties of 40 structural isomers located on the MP2/6-311++G** PES of the carbonic acid dimer. All six possible combinations of carbonic acid monomers were considered. The dimers are divided into six geometrical motifs. Our data suggests that combinations of anti-anti monomers do not necessarily lead to larger stabilization energies in the formation of the dimers. MP2 underestimates the relative binding energies with respect to CCSD(T) by as much as 3.2 kcal mol-1. At least 3 different dimers which may contribute to the stability of carbonic acid are predicted to have significant populations. Binding energy is only directly related to relative stability when comparing dimers formed from the same monomers. Overall stabilization is mainly dictated by attractive electrostatic interactions via cooperative polarization by virtue of the spatial arrangement of the dipole moment components along the polar bonds. We uncover structural, conformational and energetic features of the problem. As in the isolated species, clusters containing the gauche-gauche (gg) conformation of dimethylphosphate (DMP -) are energetically preferred, however, contributions from hydrated gauche-anti (ga) and anti-anti (aa) monomers cannot be neglected because such structures are quite common and because they are close in energy to those containing the gg monomer. At least seven distinct types of O?H-O-H contacts lead to DMP- ? water interactions that are always stabilizing, but not strong enough to induce significant changes in the geometries of either DMP- or water units. Our results lead us to postulate DMP- to be a suitable model to study explicit and detailed aspects of microsolvation of cell membranes. This can be supported from the understanding of the underlying biological dynamics and atmospheric behavior, to the mathematical approach for the proper use of all available information. This review paper touches on several aspects in which mathematical models can help to solve challenging problems regarding air pollution in reviewing the state-of-the-art at the global level and assessing the corresponding state of development as applied to the Tropical Andes. We address the complexities and challenges that modelling atmospheric dynamics in a mega-diverse region with abrupt topography entails. Understanding the relevance of monitoring and facing the problems of data scarcity, we call attention to the usefulness of data assimilation for uncertainty reduction, and how these techniques could help tackle the scarcity of regional monitoring networks to accelerate the implementation and development of modelling systems for air quality in the Tropical Andes. Departamento de Ciencias; Ciencias Biológicas y Bioprocesos (CIBIOP)In this work, various ferro-ferricyanide oxidoreductase activities of rat liver mitochondria were studied to find conditions under which the outer membrane might restrict the flux of these highly charged non-biological anions. When the isotonic low ionic strength medium was supplemented with 25mM KCl, a several-fold increase in the succinate-ferricyanide reductase activity of mitochondria and in the rate of external NADH oxidation in the presence of ferrocyanide was observed. Mitochondrial respiration with 5mM ferrocyanide was almost completely inhibited after consumption of 3.8-18.5% of the dissolved oxygen, depending on the medium and the presence of 2,4-dinitrophenol. The introduction of suitable spatial frequency carriers, by internally modulating imaged speckles, allows one to selectively isolate or combine the spectral content of different images into spatially separated regions in the Fourier plane. Theoretical and experimental results extend the speckle photography technique to the depiction of several specklegrams of multiple uniform in-plane displacements. In this case, because different pupils are considered for recording, the cross-correlation functions for the amplitudes and intensities in the image plane are calculated on the basis of the statistical properties of the object. The geometric motifs observed are somewhat similar to those encountered for the methanol tetramer, but the interactions responsible for cluster stabilization are quite different in origin. Cluster stabilization is not related to the number of hydrogen bonds. Two distinct, well-defined types of hydrogen bonds scattered over a wide range of distances are predicted. © Springer-Verlag Berlin Heidelberg 2012.
