This MBA’s thesis examines the impact of generative artificial intelligence on the hourly billing model in professional service firms, with emphasis on technology consulting companies that operate under time and materials contracts. The problem statement arises from the tension between the objective of revenue and profit growth and the pressure from clients to see the benefits of productivity tools that reduce the billable hours required to achieve the same results. A documentary analysis is carried out on professional service firms, cost structures and job order costing. The perspective of generative artificial intelligence on productivity is incorporated. Based on this framework, a cost model is built for a technology services company that bills by the hour, and a productivity sensitivity model is developed that quantifies the effect of different improvement rates in consultant utilization on revenue, gross profit and operating margin. Additionally, the market value of providers of technology services that are highly intensive in hourly billing is examined, to contrast market behavior with the launches of generative artificial intelligence products and with the hypothesis of a structural reduction in the demand for labor hours.

Lineamientos estratégicos para el management del conocimiento en startups en Medellín
(2026-04-20) Pérez Carvajal, Carolina; Roa Pinzón, Juanita; Henao Cálad, Mónica
The adoption of generative AI in startups is rapidly transforming how knowledge is created, organized, and used. However, its implementation is often exploratory and weakly aligned with knowledge management strategies, creating tensions and limiting its potential. This gap is evident in ecosystems like Medellín, where empirical evidence remains scarce. This study addresses this by proposing strategic guidelines to integrate GenAI into organizational knowledge practices in startups.

Motivación académica y el uso de la inteligencia artificial generativa : una revisión sistemática de la literatura
(Universidad EAFIT, 2026-05-25) Morales Madrid, Santiago Alexander; Manrique Tisnes, Horacio
Generative artificial intelligence (AI), through tools like ChatGPT and DALL·E, has transformed the educational field, but by facilitating academic tasks, it raises questions about its impact on motivation (Gallent Torres et al., 2023). The main concern, grounded in frameworks such as Self-Determination Theory, is that using AI as a "shortcut" may reduce personal effort, thereby affecting students' perception of competence and autonomy—crucial factors for a genuine interest in learning. From this, a central question arises: does the use of AI reflect a pre-existing lack of motivation, or, on the contrary, is it altering the dynamics of engagement with learning? This project seeks to synthesize existing scientific evidence on these dynamics to provide new insights into the understanding of this relationship, within a context where specialized literature is growing exponentially and educational institutions face the challenge of balancing technology and effective learning (Sabzalieva & Valentini, 2023; Chassignol et al., 2018).
