Publicación Analytics product line : a conceptual proposal for higher education institutions(Universidad EAFIT, 2021) Cárcamo Correa, Jason; Tabares Betancur, Marta Silvia; Universidad EAFITÍtem Conditions for the promotion and development of creative industries within higher education institutions(The Design Society, 2015-01-01) Hernandez, M.C.; Podesta, M.P.; Bedoya, B.E.Higher Education Institutions (HEIs) play an important role on the promotion and development of creative industries (e.g. product design companies). These roles, however, are not clearly defined. Previous studies by the authors, conducted in Colombia, encountered several critical internal factors as well as environmental relationships proper of the ecosystem of business that affect performance in creative industries. HEIs can promote specific activities to become agents that enhance the development of these creative industries, thus contributing to overcome environmental and critical internal factors. This paper presents a model that can serve as a starting point within HEIs to establish policies towards this goal. For such purpose, the present research extended the aforementioned studies to Argentina and the United States, countries recognized worldwide for the development of "creative industries" or "creative economy". Fieldwork was performed in nine cities: two in Colombia, two in Argentina and five in the United States. Data was collected via interviews and focus group studies conducted at universities and creative industries, as well as with experts, government representatives and support organisations. A PESTEL analysis was used to identify weaknesses that could become opportunities for action within HEIs. The results allow for the establishment of nine key roles of the HEIs (i.e. education, moderator of the ecosystem, research, foster discussion, investment, on-going support, dynamism, joker, and simulation/real environment) that can be related to these institutions' substantive functions (i.e. teaching, research, extension, and support and integration), which contribute to enhance the development of creative industries, their growth and long-term sustainability. © 2015, The Design Society. Una propuesta de hoja de ruta(Revista Espacios, 2017-01-01) Franco L.; Gentilin M.The commercialization of new knowledge represents a great challenge for higher education institutions (HEI) today. In this paper, we conducted a qualitative research using findings from interviews and observations in technology transfer offices (TTO) in seven HEI in Colombia, Spain and the United States. The results helped in identifying the key factors that influence the process of commercialization of new knowledge. At the same time, this paper proposes a roadmap to help universities, researchers and professionals in charge of TTOs with this process. © 2017. revistaESPACIOS.com. The university desertion of female students in the Institutions of Higher Education of the Municipality of Medellín, becomes a challenge that transcends internal scenarios and becomes an issue that requires an inter-institutional view, where the public sphere converges, from the perspective of public policy for the Urban and Rural Women of Medellín, the academy and SAPIENCIA. This is how, through the present investigative exercise, it is intended to establish if there are factors that favor university desertion in women beneficiaries of the technology scholarship program of the Mayor's Office of Medellín, for which an investigation is proposed that allows a conceptual approach, applying qualitative research which includes the documentary review and the interview. In the results, although the work and effort carried out by the professionals of the permanence area of the SAPIENCIA area to avoid dropout phenomena are highlighted, it is found that the dropout factors of higher education for women respond, identified in the present approach to the gender roles that have been raised historically.Ítem Integrating computation into a civil engineering curriculum instructions at a colombian higher education institution(Research in Engineering Education Network, 2019-01-01) Vieira C.; Gomez J.; Vieira C.; Gomez J.; Universidad EAFIT. Departamento de Ingeniería Mecánica; Mecánica AplicadaThis paper presents a work in progress to integrate computation across the civil engineering curriculum at a Colombian University. Engineering programs all around the world have started to realize the value of preparing the future professionals with the knowledge and skills to solve complex problems using computational tools and methods such as modeling and simulation. The paper describes the challenges the institution is facing with these courses, propose an instructional approach to support student learning, and presents a preliminary data analysis for the adaptation of an instrument that will allow to assess students'self-beliefs about computing in the context of this curricular innovation.
