However, conventional approaches rely on methods that make assumptions about data distribution and reduce the dimensionality of the input data. Here we propose the incorporation of entropy related measures into the process of constructing graph-based representations for biological datasets in order to uncover their inner structure. The system group classification is central to the kinematic structure and consists of determining a sequence of kinematically and statically independent-simple chains which represent a modular basis for the kinematics and force analysis of the mechanism. This article presents a novel graph-based algorithm for structural analysis of planar mechanisms with closed-loop kinematic structure which determines a sequence of modules (Assur groups) representing the topology of the mechanism. The computational complexity analysis and proof of correctness of the implemented algorithm are provided. Departamento de Ciencias Básicas; Óptica AplicadaThis article depicts an integrated system capable of generating virtual stereo scenes, reconstructing a three-dimensional map of distances, and calculating the accuracy of the results obtained. This tool is particularly useful for verifying the validity of distance reconstruction techniques, and is robust enough to use in a wide variety of scenarios since it avoids the need for an image-capture system in laboratory simulations. The importance of the distance reconstruction problem lies in the range of its applications: industrial inspection and quality control, surveillance and security, autonomous vehicles, robotic systems, medical image analysis, image databases, virtual reality, telepresence, and telerobotics. Departamento de Ciencias Básicas; Óptica AplicadaWe study speckle decorrelation effects in connection with conventional vortex metrology techniques. Our proposal is based on processing speckled images recorded by using two different experimental set-ups. In both schemes two laterally displaced patterns are generated: one scheme allows for obtaining undecorrelated speckle distributions and the other for decorrelated ones. Vortex networks associated with speckle patterns are analyzed by employing the usual tools developed for vortex metrology. For each recorded image, a 2D pseudo-phase map is generated on the basis of the Reisz transform. Then the vortices are located, and parameterized in terms of their topological charge, eccentricity, vorticity and angles between the zero crossing lines from the real and the imaginary parts of the analytical signal. After tracking the homologous vortices onto the maps, the histograms corresponding to the coordinate displacements are analyzed. We show that histograms interpretation is prone to failure due to its high sensitivity to decorrelation. Experimental evidences are presented to support the restrictions imposed by decorrelation of actual speckles due to uniform in-plane displacements. © 2012 Elsevier B.V. All rights reserved.
