Ítem Diferencias entre psicoterapia breve y coaching(Universidad EAFIT, 2019) Mejía Sarasa, David; Goenaga Peña, JesúsThe purpose of the present investigation is to investigate what are the differences between coaching and psychotherapy with brief or focal purposes according to two coaches, a psychotherapist, and two psychologists coaches from the city of Medellin. This with the aim of clarifying if both services compete with each other, or if on the contrary there is a lack of knowledge by those who request them about the key characteristics that differentiate one from the other. In this comparative descriptive study semi-structured interviews were conducted based on two instruments previously used in similar research, some questions were added, and the interviewees were allowed to add extra information of their experience that was of value to the investigation. Results: The five experts were found to be congruent in their responses, both among themselves and with international theory, coaching active natural talents in the present of clients without clinical pathologies, and training them with a series of tasks and tools to achieve goals in the near future. Focal psychotherapy focuses on solving specific emotional and behavioral problems by referring to patients' past to give them relief in the present. Conclusions: Coaching and brief psychotherapy are services focused on completely different goals, and before competing, they can be excellent complements between both. It is the misinformation on the part of the people who request the services and the lack of rigor to validate the credentials in the training of some professionals, the factors that originate the misunderstandings between both interventions.
