Publicación Efectos heterogéneos de la tasa de cambio real sobre el sector manufacturero en regímenes de apreciación y depreciación(Universidad EAFIT, 2026-05-29) Bedoya Álvarez, Carlos Daniel; Goda,ThomasThe objective of this study is to determine whether commodity price cycles have heterogeneous effects on the manufacturing exports of commodity-dependent countries. To this end, a panel dataset comprising 34 countries for the period 1972–2024 is constructed, integrating data from a commodity price index with manufacturing export data. First, commodity boom and bust regimes are identified using a two-state Markov-switching model applied to a commodity price index weighted by each country’s export structure. Subsequently, the effects on manufacturing exports are estimated using OLS with country fixed effects for three distinct dependent variables, and an alternative robustness test is conducted. The results do not allow for a clear conclusion regarding the presence of the Dutch disease and heterogeneous effects, given the ambiguities among the different regressions.
