Ítem Impacto de la producción de café en las condiciones de vida en los municipios del departamento de Antioquia en el periodo de tiempo de 2011-2017(Universidad Eafit, 2020) Saldarriaga Pareja, Juan Camilo; España Eljaiek, IrinaA panel database was used at the municipal level for the period 2011-2017, obtained from the Agronet and Terridata information sources from the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development (MADR) and the National Planning Department (DNP) respectively. With these data, synthetic indicators of living conditions were constructed from the factor analysis to evaluate the impact that coffee production had on the living conditions of coffee municipalities in the department of Antioquia. Through a fixed effects model, the estimation is made and positive evidence is found of the impact that coffee activity has on health and education conditions. The findings are subject to endogeneity due to variables omitted due to the lack of available information, however, they are in line with other studies developed on the subject.Ítem Relación existente entre la posición y condición social y la prevalencia de suicidio de jóvenes en la ciudad de Medellín(Universidad EAFIT, 2021) Perea Castañeda, Juan Diego; Uribe Arroyave, Simón; Hernández Flórez, MónicaIn the “comunas” and townships of the City of Medellin between 2013 to 2019 there were 12.899 suicide attempts, where 7,58% were fatal, with a total of 978. This work research the relation between socioeconomic aspects and the prevalence in suicide of the youngsters of Medellin. Previous literature shows evidence of international research (Asia, Oceania, Center and South America), national and regional. Authors like Posner and Becker (2004) argue from an economic perspective the decision of suicide or self harming as a rational action and they base this in evidence from different cultures. On the other hand, authors like Cairns, J.; Graham, E.; Bambra, C. (2017) and others, try to find a relation in this decision making by doing a daily comparative between the behavior of people, their surroundings and life conditions in general. Regarding results coming from the econometric model, an significant impact is found in the socioeconomic status that there’s a big difference when comparing high status with medium and low (less suicides and suicide attempts in high status). Likewise another variables were analyzed that turned out to be influential in the decision making of young and people in general.
