The first one, corresponds to the design using the combination of the maximum values of axial load and bending moments obtained from a response spectrum modal elastic analysis; in the second one structural design is made for all the actions obtained from linear chronological elastic analyses; and the last one corresponding to the structural design using the envelope of vectorial seismic responses proposed by Menun and Der Kiureghian (2000). Each of the methodologies used is developed following the requirements defined in the Colombian Seismic Resistant Construction Regulation (NSR-10). As a result of the present article, the economic advantages (reductions up to 50% in reinforcement steel) obtained by using the method proposed by Menun and Der Kiureghian, which additionally, represents in a better way the maximum expected seismic vector response of the columns, are highlighted.
