The dimensions of the structures were selected so that they complied with the normative limits of mezzanine drifts, using the spectrum of design accelerations. In both structures, the exact amount of steel required in the design was installed to ensure that the overstress rates of the structural elements were close to unity and to ensure that demand was equal to capacity. In addition, a static nonlinear analysis was carried out to determine the capacity curve of the structures and the displacements associated with the collapse condition were obtained. Subsequently, the levels of spectral demand were increased for each of the structures under study, so that they reached the collapse displacement, which made it possible to evaluate the overstress indices associated with the failure of the structure. Finally, these values were correlated with the capacity curves. For shorter structures, it was determined that overstress indices greater than a value of 1.9, both in columns and beams, are associated with the collapse of the structure. In the tallest buildings, it was discovered that overstress values close to 1.9 in beams and 1.2 in columns indicate the collapse condition.Publicación Diseño a flexocompresión de columnas empleando envolventes de respuesta sísmica vectoriales - Implicaciones normativas y económicas(Universidad EAFIT, 2024) Monroy Yepes, Alejandro; Jaramillo Fernández, Juan Diego; Risk and Design Consulting S.A.SThis paper presents comparative results of the structural design of reinforced concrete columns using 3 different methodologies for the calculation of the maximum expected seismic demands. The first one, corresponds to the design using the combination of the maximum values of axial load and bending moments obtained from a response spectrum modal elastic analysis; in the second one structural design is made for all the actions obtained from linear chronological elastic analyses; and the last one corresponding to the structural design using the envelope of vectorial seismic responses proposed by Menun and Der Kiureghian (2000). Each of the methodologies used is developed following the requirements defined in the Colombian Seismic Resistant Construction Regulation (NSR-10). As a result of the present article, the economic advantages (reductions up to 50% in reinforcement steel) obtained by using the method proposed by Menun and Der Kiureghian, which additionally, represents in a better way the maximum expected seismic vector response of the columns, are highlighted.Publicación Guía evaluativa para el diseño sísmico de estructuras de concreto(Universidad EAFIT, 2024) González Arias, Diego Alejandro; Botero Palacio, Juan Carlos
