The concepts addressed in this research are Eating Disorders (ED) and how they can be perpetuated by the low levels of emotional intelligence that sufferers tend to possess. Method The qualitative approach is used, due to the scarcity of research on a subjective perspective of these pathologies in the literature, so a case study is used. The source of information is a single case, using the life history methodology. The information was collected through a semi-structured interview. Results. Difficulties are identified in each of the four branches of Salovey Mayer's EI model. This woman has gone through years of therapy that have allowed her to develop an EQ that has helped her to improve most of the symptoms of her ED. Discussion and conclusions. The results show the evident difficulty presented by this woman, these are compared with the existing literature and it is affirmed that in this case she did have strong difficulties in her EI, the construction of this EI through therapy was of great help in her recovery, however she still presents problems in some emotional aspects.
