Through an investigation that includes testimonies, documentary sources, analysis of the past, present and future of this water source, its connection with the environment that surrounds it and a count of the organisms and microorganisms that are part of its channel, the creators of the project , with the accompaniment of teachers with an emphasis on transmedia communication, created a close and rigorous journalistic and documentary scenario that dignifies the role of this ravine in the history of Comuna 14 of Medellín.Ítem Guardians: Heirs of the mountain(Universidad EAFIT, 2023) Colorado Chávez, Paula Andrea; Luján Saenz, Juan Carlos; Serna Salazar, Natalia; Franco Higuita, Hernán Darío; Cárdenas Franco, Luis Alejandro; Universidad EAFITTransmedia project that seeks to generate appropriation of the common history of love and resilience of women who have carried out jobs that start from or are related to nature. To achieve this, real anecdotes and everyday stories are used, which connect with the public, generating identity, nostalgia and empowerment, to take action in concrete ways with respect to each aspect that affects water sources and their flora, as is the case of La Volcana stream.Ítem Identificación de los valores objeto de conservación de Reserva la Rivera, Filandia, Quindío(Universidad EAFIT, 2024) Gómez Tirado, Esteban; Giraldo Salazar , Santiago; Díaz Pulido, AngélicaConservation values (CVs) are a limited number of species, communities or ecosystems that are chosen to represent the biodiversity of a landscape or protected area. They are objectives because they can be pillars in the conservation of ecosystems and their biodiversity, can be monitored over time, and account for the fulfillment of the conservation objectives of a protected area. The new conservation figures based on areas and that are constituted from civil society also require the implementation of strategies and conservation plans focused on CV. Our attention is focused on Reserva La Rivera, located in the north of the department of Quindío and directly bordering the Otún Quimbaya Fauna and Flora Sanctuary, which is part of the buffer zone of Los Nevados National Natural Park. It is a private conservation project with 345 hectares distributed between forests in different stages of regeneration and grasslands, and is located in one of the most important biodiversity hotspots in the world, the tropical Andes. For this study, biotic inventories of birds, mammals, reptiles and amphibians were carried out, taking into account historical records, collected specimens and field sampling in Reserva La Rivera; 308 species of birds, 30 of mammals, 13 of reptiles and 9 of amphibians were recorded and the conservation values were prioritized according to five criteria: heterogeneity, area of distribution, vulnerability, function and socioeconomic value. Five species were selected as VOC, represented by three birds, one mammal and one reptile. This diversity reflects the richness of the study area, its importance in the objectives of other protected areas and the connectivity in its buffer zones.Ítem Proceso de ASC - ECOPATRIA, PORQUE LA BIODIVERSIDAD TAMBIEN HACE PARTE DE LA SOCIEDAD QUE HABITAMOS(Universidad EAFIT, 2023) Alzate Hincapie, Brian Steven; Bula García, María Alejandra; Palomino Ochoa, Santiago; Osorio Beltrán, Valentina; Castaño García, Wendy; Ortíz Zapata, Matías; Pizarro Bello, Albeiro Alfonso; León Ávila, Natalia; Lopera Velásquez, María Alejandra; Universidad EAFITThis project is an initiative focused on research and knowledge dissemination, specifically with a scientific, political, and environmental emphasis—distinct tones that form a song society needs to hear. Our instrument for telling these stories is the experimental documentary podcast, characterized by the interplay of various sounds, such as the voices of characters accompanied by bioacoustics. We propose to create sound content based on empirical research, microethnography, and community engagement in the five townships of Medellín, featuring narratives that detail and precisely explain the interactions among different actors within a social ecosystem. The goal is to create stories accompanied by unique sounds that can be used to disseminate knowledge across various academic fields within the Colombian context. To achieve this, we will produce a knowledge dissemination podcast, composed of data, sounds, people, stories, research, and multidisciplinary collaboration, aimed at reaching a diverse audience and serving as a repository of scientific information.Ítem The Effectiveness of Listing Under the U.S. Endangered Species Act: An Econometric Analysis Using Matching Methods(Elsevier, 2007) Ferraroa, Paul J.; McIntoshb, Craig; Ospina, Monica.; Department of Economics, Andrew Young School of Policy Studies, Georgia State University; School of International Relations and Pacific Studies, University of California-San Diego, San Diego; Department of Economics, Andrew Young School of Policy Studies, Georgia State University, Escuela de Economía y Finanzas, Departamento de Economía, Universidad EAFIT, Medellín, Colombia.; Escuela de Economía y Finanzas; Economía; Estudios en Economía y EmpresaDiametrically opposed views of the effectiveness of the United States Endangered Species Act (ESA) co-exist more than 30 years after the Act's creation. The evidence marshaled to date for and against the ESA suffers from a problem common in analyses of biodiversity protection measures: the absence of a well-chosen control group. We demonstrate how matching methods can be used to select such a control group and thereby estimate how species listed under the ESA would have fared had they not been listed. Our results show that listing a species under the ESA is, on average, detrimental to species recovery if not combined with substantial government funds. In contrast, listed species with such funding tend to improve. Our analysis offers not only new insights into a controversial debate, but also a methodology to guide conservation scientists in evaluating the effectiveness of society's responses to biodiversity lossÍtem Vote X La Presidenta(Universidad EAFIT, 2023) Cárdenas Franco, Luis Alejandro; Colorado Chávez, Paula Andrea; Ospina Lopera, Mónica Liliana; Serna Salazar, Natalia; Universidad EAFITTransmedia project to make visible the environmental problems around water sources and thus generate collective awareness towards the care and maintenance of biodiversity in the Provenza neighborhood, located in the city of Medellín.Ítem When La Volcana speaks(Universidad EAFIT, 2023) Colorado Chávez, Paula Andrea; Luján Saenz, Juan Carlos; Lopera Velásquez, María Alejandra; Vélez, Juan Mauricio; Franco, Hernán; Serna Salazar, Natalia; Universidad EAFITPodcast that mixes fictional and non-fictional narrative around the La Volcana stream, which crosses Comuna 14 of Medellín from east to west and empties into the Aburrá River.
