Ítem Efecto de la apertura comercial para el empleo y la producción textilera en Colombia(Universidad EAFIT, 2021) Bedoya Mejía, David; Villa Herrera, Nicolás; Goda, ThomasThe following work is the result of a research study where the main objective is to establish the effect trade opening on employment and production in the Colombian textile sector. We find that the opening up of the economy produced huge changes in the sector's exports and imports since 1992, which had important impacts on employment and production in this sector. Using a fixed effects econometric model, we identify that the value added of the textile sector was negatively affected by tradeopening. Hence, we conclude that trade liberalization was not beneficial for the Colombian textile industry.Ítem Relación entre el comercio y la participación salarial en Colombia : ¿aplica el teorema Stolper-Samuelson?(Universidad EAFIT, 2020) Perdigon Ramírez, Juan Carlos; Goda, ThomasWage shares have had a negative trend in the last 50 years for developed and developing countries. This work uses a time series to analyze the wage share explained by the main theoretical arguments for the individual case of Colombia in the last 50 years. Furthermore, it contrasts the results with the one postulated by the Heckscher-Ohlin and Stolper-Samuelson model. Strong relationships were found in the financial, fiscal, and technological framework. Trade was not significant; however, its relationship was negative. This contradicts the Heckscher-Ohlin and Stolper-Samuelson postulation of specialization since Colombia enjoys relative abundance in the labor production factor.
