    Calidad de vida del adulto mayor en Medellín 2001-2017 : una mirada desde las estrategias estatales

    The public strategies in regard of the quality of life for older people first appeared in 2001 with the Public Policy created for this population. Although there was a series of municipal changes that allowed us to think about the increase of older people, such as life expectancy and the decrease in birth rates, these transformations in the society had effects in the construction of some plans and strategies to serve this population in the last two decades. The purpose of this article is to analyze the strategies that emerged between 2001 and 2017 in relation to the elders and its articulation with the Municipal Development Plans. At the same time, it generates a discussion about the challenges, difficulties, needs and possible lines of action that arises at the work with older people in a mobile and dynamic context. This review shows that, according to the reviewed sources, the strategies have been essentially the same, and there have been very little plans proposing new interventions in accordance with the changes this population have had. In addition to this, most plans involve dealing with elders who have socio-economical difficulties, while people with other difficulties are left out. Additionally, there is no culture of aging in the city on how to deal with this natural period of life.
