    Colombian universities´ interest in increasing their internationalization activities grows every day -- However, many institutions lack clarity regarding the factors that explain the emergence and evolution of this phenomenon, which impacts their abilities to define properly the set of actions needed to undertake this endeavor -- In order to help overcome this situation, this article proposes the existence of three different ways to understand the phenomena and the types of internationalization activities to implement in each case -- It also presents the internationalization in house model as a useful tool to achieve this goal in light of the reading universities make of this ongoing process
