    In the United Kingdom, the performance on Accident and Emergency (A&E) departments is evaluated by the targets set by the National Service of the United Kingdom. By 2008, the target for any department was that the 98% of the patients must leave whithin 4 hours. This paper presents the development of a System Synamics model of the interaction among different areas of a healthcare system, with the purpose of evaluating the effect of the performance target over the dynamics on the department. The creation of the model is based on the literature review made about publications that involve subjects of system dynamics and emergency departments.
