Departamento de Economía y Finanzas; Research in Spatial Economics (RISE)This paper uses a structured and consolidated approach to identify the most important factors, influencing the economic environment during the entrepreneurship. The econometric model produces statistically significant coefficients, establishing a meaningful positive relationship between the economic growth and entrepreneurship. In addition, we found a negative connection the both the real cost of capital and the employment with entrepreneurship. By combining the insights from our econometric exercise, we estimate a structural model, which allows us to identify the most important variables with respect to the entrepreneurship. Furthermore, we apply a structural model considering the economic environment, thereby presenting a unifying structure of the observed phenomenon. The robustness of our analysis is strengthened by various specifications and we observe that applying the suggested interventions defines an economic surrounding, that favors the entrepreneurship. © 2017.Ítem The creation of companies under a structural approach: An application case(Revista Espacios, 2017-01-01) Hurtado Rendón, A.; Velásquez, H.; Támara, A.; Universidad EAFIT. Departamento de Economía y Finanzas; Research in Spatial Economics (RISE)In this study, spatial information is used to complement the analysis that crime makes an economic theory focused on the availability of police force and judicial efficiency. Particularly, this document analyzes the role that the level of permanent income plays in crimes in a geographical unit and its neighbors, in addition to the relationship of socioeconomic characteristics. An exercise that was applied in the communes of Medellin confirmed the idea that an increase in permanent revenues of 1% reduces crimes in the communes on average by 0.67%. The effect this has on its neighbors is significant and variable. Traditional panel models underestimate the real impact that an increase in income in some neighborhoods has. Robust tests show the accuracy of the results and the adequacy of the model data generating process. © 2016 Universidad Nacional Autónoma de México, Facultad de EconomíaÍtem Efectos del cargo por confiabilidad sobre el precio spot de la energía eléctrica en colombia(Universidad Nacional de Colombia, 2016-01-01) Duque, J.P.B.; García, J.J.; Velásquez, H.; Universidad EAFIT. Departamento de Economía y Finanzas; Research in Spatial Economics (RISE)This paper considers the effect of electricity generation reliability on the spot price of the electricity market in Colombia, a mechanism implemented in 2006 to encourage existing generators or new investors to increase the installed capacity in the wholesale energy market. We describe the performance of this mechanism in Colombia and analyse the behaviour of some structural variables in the operation of this market, such as the ratio between the market demand and the actual availability, El Niño and La Niña, the reservoir level, and some regulation measures. The spot price presents high volatility implying that the proper specification corresponds to a regression model with ARCH structure (Engle, 1982). Results show that the reliability charge is positive and statistically significant. Also, El Niño has a positive impact on the spot price, due to the large hydraulic share of this market.Ítem Infraestructura pública y precios de vivienda: Una aplicación de regresión geográficamente ponderada en el contexto de precios hedónicos.(Universidad EAFIT, 2011-08-01) Duque, J, C.; Velásquez, H.; Agudelo, J; Universidad EAFIT.
