    Estudio de factibilidad para la creación de una empresa de hierbas aromáticas en el municipio de Guarne

    Nowadays, the aromatic herbs industry of the world is growing -- In the last decade world imports for this sector had up to 200% increase, which makes it a very attractive sector for any economy -- The United States, as the main consumer of these plants, fails to supply all its domestic demand and needs to import from developing countries such as Colombia -- Colombia has optimal climate conditions for growing certain types of aromatic herbs and concentrates 48% of its production in three departments (Antioquia, Cundinamarca and Valle del Cauca), from which Antioquia is the main producer -- The municipality of Guarne, located in the East of Antioquia and with a height of 2,150 meters above sea level, becomes an ideal setting for both, the production and export of aromatic herbs such as thyme and rosemary, which grow between 1,800 and 2,200 m above sea level -- Additionally, this municipality becomes an ideal setting for export due to its proximity to the airport José María Córdoba and the possibility of sharing export channel with flowers, which reduces their costs significantly -- The context mentioned above allows identifying a market opportunity to produce and export aromatic herbs to the United States -- Consequently, the present project intends to evaluate the feasibility for the creation of a company of aromatic herbs in Guarne under ONUDI methodology, in order to potentiate a latent market opportunity
