Ítem Development of a fragility model for the residential building stock in South America(EARTHQUAKE ENGINEERING RESEARCH INST, 2017-05-01) Villar-Vega, Mabe; Silva, Vitor; Crowley, Helen; Yepes, Catalina; Tarque, Nicola; Acevedo, Ana Beatriz; Hube, Matias A.; Gustavo, Coronel D.; Maria, Hernan Santa; Mecánica AplicadaSouth America-in particular, the Andean countries-are exposed to high levels of seismic hazard, which, when combined with the elevated concentration of population and properties, has led to an alarming potential for human and economic losses. Although several fragility models have been developed in recent decades for South America, and occasionally used in probabilistic risk analysis, these models have been developed using distinct methodologies and assumptions, which renders any direct comparison of the results across countries questionable, and thus application at a regional level unreliable. This publication aims at obtaining a uniform fragility model for the most representative building classes in the Andean region, for large-scale risk analysis. To this end, sets of single-degree-of-freedom oscillators were created and subjected to a series of ground motion records using nonlinear time history analyses, and the resulting damage distributions were used to derive sets of fragility functions. © 2017, Earthquake Engineering Research Institute.Ítem Development of a fragility model for the residential building stock in South America(EARTHQUAKE ENGINEERING RESEARCH INST, 2017-05-01) Villar-Vega, Mabe; Silva, Vitor; Crowley, Helen; Yepes, Catalina; Tarque, Nicola; Acevedo, Ana Beatriz; Hube, Matias A.; Gustavo, Coronel D.; Maria, Hernan Santa; Villar-Vega, Mabe; Silva, Vitor; Crowley, Helen; Yepes, Catalina; Tarque, Nicola; Acevedo, Ana Beatriz; Hube, Matias A.; Gustavo, Coronel D.; Maria, Hernan Santa; Universidad EAFIT. Application for the Aburrá Valley Metropolitan Area (AMVA)(Universidad EAFIT, 2022) Acevedo, Ana Beatriz; Yepes-Estrada, Catalina; Castañeda, Orly; Ramírez, Olga; Parra, Alejandra; Universidad EAFITThe document is the result of collaborative effort between the GEM Foundation, the Metropolitan Administration of the Valley of Aburrá (AMVA) and its Early Warning System project for Medellín and the Valley of Aburrá - SIATA, and EAFIT University. The aim of the report is to create educational material to raise awareness about seismic risk to support those responsible for communicating this issue to different societal groups. The target audience ranges from students at various educational levels to the general public, including personnel involved in disaster risk planning, reduction, and mitigation activities.Ítem Seismic risk awareness workshop aimed at SNGRD operating entities: Application to the Aburrá Valley(Universidad EAFIT, 2023) Acevedo, Ana Beatriz; Castañeda, Tatiana; Escallón, Paula; González, Daniela; Leone José; Marín Jenny; Yepes-Estrada, Catalina; Ospina, Wilfredo; Perdomo, José; Universidad EAFITThe document constitutes a second version of the workshop “Am I at Risk if an Earthquake Occurs?”, which is designed to raise awareness about seismic risk and initiate an open dialogue based on frequently misunderstood community questions, such as “Can earthquakes occur near my city? How strong can they be? Is my country prepared for a high-intensity earthquake emergency? Am I at risk?” Using simple language in an open and transparent conversation with experts, this session has been the ideal space for the convergence of science and society. The second version of the workshop aims to raise awareness about seismic risk directed at operational entities of the National Disaster Risk Management Information System (SNGRD).
